Stuff of the Day

Surreal compliment of the day: "You move with the eloquence of disintigrating fudge."

Site of the day: Cartania
This is a strange, lyrically beautiful, hard-to-pin-down site. There is spectacular writing in the essays here, but that's the least of it. Heart? Passion for excellence? A literate view of a universe that is by turns dark and magical? All of the above, I suggest, and more. Visit the site, wander through its links, read its essays, soak up its atmosphere and its energy. Cartania is a gift from John Cartan to the rest of us.

Quiz question of the day: What's the biggest number ever?
(For the purposes of this question, a number is only a number if it has some meaning. "A bajillion times the estimated number of electrons in the universe" is a number, if you can find a way to mathematically express it. "Bajillion to the power of bajillion to the power of bajillion.... a bajillion times" is not a number.)

Trivia of the day: What's special about the number 1549?
Answer (highlight to read): It's the only number under 10,000 that is not the sum of a prime and a power.(How odd. Does it mean something? Who first noticed this? And why?)

I am squinting at life sideways today, to see if it makes any better sense this way.
